While giving circles are new to many, they are a form of fundraising with deep roots in many communities. In the video below Hector Hinojosa tells about the giving circle his family belonged to when he was growing up in Hillsboro.
Giving circles allow community members to pool their donations and decide collectively how those funds will be spent. Defensa de la Dignidad (In Defense of Dignity) is a giving circle designated to easing the hardship of immigration legal fees. Members of the circle propose grant recipients and decide collectively to approve grants.
Common Change provides an online platform to facilitate all aspects of the process. Simply create an account with Common Change then request to join Defensa de la Dignidad (just like joining a Facebook group). Common Change is also our non-profit sponsor so all donations are tax deductible and 100% of the donations go directly to support Defensa de la Dignidad’s mission.
If you would prefer to donate to Defensa de la Dignidad without participating in the circle deliberations, that’s okay too! Just send us an email at Defensa.Dignidad@gmail.com to make arrangements.
